| Damaged rims
6 months ago I bought new wheels with Mavic T224 rims (700C). Almost
immediately, I started to hear shrieking noises when braking, and found that
the rims were wearing out far too quickly. Inspecting the brake pads I
found pieces of aluminum, sometimes up to 1 mm in size.
I have changed the pads (Shimano XT for alu rims). Several times I have
cleaned them to get rid of the alu bits. I have repolished the rims.
It worked during 1 day or 1 week, then it always started again.
Anybody with a similar experience ?
Were the rims possibly defective ?
Have I done something very wrong ? I suspect I may have, as I didn't think
of changing the brake pads right when I installed the new wheels. But can
it be that bad ?
Does anybody have an idea of something I could do to save these rims ?
Context info: the bike is used daily in all weather, mainly for short
commuting (13 km roundtrip) in town. At this time, I probably covered
~3000 km with these new wheels.
