Margins on bicycles are surprisingly low by retail standards. My club
gets a very generous deal on bikes through our sponsoring shop and
Cannondale themselves, and I'm pretty sure the discounts you're talking
about would eat almost all the profit in the bike.
More to the point, the selling season for '05s has just begun. Unless
your dealer faces unusual circumstances, they won't be interested in
discounting their inventory for several months. Now is the time of year
to find that one last '04 in your size and find out how motivated the
dealer is to get rid of that machine. If they're sold out of '04s, well,
they probably figure they can sell out the '05s as well.
