"Thorn resistant" tubes are indeed thick, slow, and heavy, and IME they don't do
much to stop thorns. Regular Slime tubes aren't nearly as slow, and are more
thorn resistant. Mr. Tuffy tire liners are helpful too.

This is true, and often overlooked. I'm surprised at how many wheels come from
the factory with crappy rim tape that creeps off the holes, and/or splits. Get
some Velox and be done with it.
