VINDICATION!!!!

Yesterday, the punks passed me on Main street. It was more of an
attempt to scare me off the road. They crowded me to the curb (as
close as they dared) and blared the horn as they passed. They took the
next turn, slowed, then made a show of flipping me off while yelling
and honking. The location was a testament to their stupidity. This all
happened just around the corner from the police station. Guess where I
stopped!

I visited with a nice officer (and her partner) who took the license
plate, a vehicle description, and an accounting of all of the
incidents. Their first action was to run the plates. I was amused to
hear one of the officers say "the plates are expired." Next was a
discussion of the vehicle owner's name. Of course, it is owned by Mom,
but her name is what sparked the discussion - and a call to the
sheriff's office. It turns out that the owner of the car is one of the
sheriff's secretaries. HAH!

The officer asked if I would be willing to let them deal with this one
internally before filing charges. With an officer in my family, I know
what that one means. These kids are about to catch hell. What makes it
worse for them is the potential for embarrassment for the sheriff's
department. Our town paper has a habit of publishing all court
proceedings and if I filed charges, the whole sordid affair would be
in the paper. The officer is keeping everything on file. She told me
that if the kids even look at me funny, giver her a call. Charges will
be filed immediately and everyone will have a heyday in court.

To make matters even worse for the kids, their Mom's best friend is
good friends with my wife. This lady is so close that they kids call
her "Aunt". She has been known to kick their butts when they get in
trouble.

These are the joys of living in a small town. Sometimes it is not be
fun to have everyone know your "business." But sometimes it is.
