You should just loosen the tire so it slides in the mounting bracket, and then the chain will be looser. Move the rear gear changing thingy and then move the chain out of the way to take the tire off. To install, do what you did but in reverse.

*You may have to loosen the brakes a little too...try to remember your setting from where you moved it. Sometimes they can get tricky and not feel right after you mess with them.
