| The farthest I've road on a bmx bike is 40 miles in one day. It might be okay if you have enough time not that you always go slow. A cyclocross or commuter bike might be better if you don't want to break a sweat although having the gears might make you want to go faster. The best thing about the bmx bike is that it is reliable, has less parts to steal, and can ride safely on the road and everywhere else you want to go.
