I didn't know GT resumed production of road bikes. A few years ago,
they were bought by Schwinn, which was quickly bought by Pacific
(manufacturer of department store bikes).

My understanding of the result is that GT bikes are still made to
(or at least near) GT's pre-buyout specifications, with maybe minor
degradations of quality. I imagine the price for similar a model is
much better than it was pre-buyout, and a good value.

I have an older GT mountain bike that has treated me well.

That sounds like a good idea, except it's difficult to fit a used
bike, since there's not a lot of selection for sizing. Fit is
extremely important on a road bike, IME, much more so than a
mountain bike.
