do suspension seat posts help?

im a pretty light guy at about 120 pounds. i usually go biking on smooth terrain wit my friends everyday and we do some small drops usually also (about 2 to 5 feet). sometimes go on the trail but not always. since im standing up when i come off drops, i would think the suspension seat post would be useless right?
basically, do i need a suspension seat post?

thanks
