Re: Aren't bicycles suposed to stop at stop signs?

cyclists are supposed to obey all traffic signals just the same as other
road traffic. many inexperenced cyclists don't realize this and run
stop signs.

Oh, give me a break. Most of these "inexperienced cyclists" have
driver's licenses and know the rules about stopping for red lights and
stop signs. They just choose to ignore them. This is particularly true
on large group rides where a pack mentality often takes over.

Bicycling advocates have fought hard to get bicycles recognized as
vehicles with the same rights and responsibilities as other vehicles.
But unfortunately, many cyclists (even so-called "serious" cyclists)
still see bicycles as toys.

To the OP: Your best bet is to point out your concerns to the event
organizers, and tell them why you won't be participating with them in
the future.

I don't have a problem riding next year, I can stop. I'm just surprised
that out of that very large group (I assume containing more than a few
experienced cyclists) that some of them didn't have at least a little of
the self preservation instinct.

Steve.

OK, it's your choice to participate. But be careful when *you* stop that you
don't get rear ended by the rest of the motley crew (who will surprised that
someone is actually stopping)!

Personally, I wouldn't want to be associated with a group like that.

Herd, school or flock behaviours are forms of self-preservation.

I've heard that the only lemmings that run over cliffs are pushed.
