| | | Kryptonite Response I just got the the following:
Dear Kryptonite Customer:
Thank you for registering for the Kryptonite Lock Exchange Program.
You will soon receive an e-mail with instructions about how and where to
return your current lock and at least one working key for the lock. A
Postage Paid Label will be included in this e-mail.
Once we have received your tubular cylinder lock and key(s), and stock is
available, your replacement lock will be shipped. We are expecting to
begin shipping out non-tubular cylinder locks beginning Mid October.
We are working day and night to get the new non-tubular cylinder Kryptonite
locks manufactured and available to ship to you. If you have any
questions, please call Customer Service at (800) 729-5625.
Your security is our priority. Thank you for your patience.

This is particularly annoying- having to send the lock back and wait for
who knows how long for a replacement. If there's anything worse than having
a possibly unreliable lock, it's not having any lock at all.
I can't imagine that this is the most efficient and cost effective way to be
dealing with this.

Respond via group- that's what it's there for, isn't it? | |

Ahh, so you return the lock with a Bic pen?

Interestingly enough, I was just going through the process
of attempting to have a second key made for my Kryptonite
"Evolution" lock from 1994. Lost the backup key somewhere
riding across Iowa this past summer.
No one seemed to be able to make that sort of key. Apparently
the little "flats" in the circle of the key are difficult to
duplicate on the key machine.
Little did I know a duplicate was easily at hand all along!
Problem is, everyone in the world also had the duplicate
key to *my* lock!
Hopefully my replacement lock will have a couple keys with
it, whenever I eventually receive the replacement.
Kudos to Kryptonite for their effort at making things right.
I know the cynics will trash them anyway as having no other
viable economic choice if they want to stay in business, and
that they knew, or should have known, about the problem since
1992. Call me overly optimistic in the overall goodness of
people (yes even corporate decision-makers driven by the
bottom line). They've done good if this all works in a fairly
timely fashion.
