My own experience is that cycling AND watching what you eat is a very
good way to lose weight fast. For one month this summer I limited
calorie intake to about 2300 per day in a 60/15/25 carb/protein/fat
ratio, and averaged around 175 miles a week, the majority of it in my
aerobic range. The weight came off at slightly over 2lbs/week, but I
had trouble keeping up on rides. I've boosted calorie intake and now
I'm losing weight at an aggravatingly slow .5lbs/week. But at least I
think it's all fat. And I feel much stronger on the bike.
