I've got just the thing for you. If you go to a shop where they
sell "Ultimate Fred" accessories, you can buy a cap that's got a bill on
the front and one on the back. This is more often seen on hipsters such
as English birdwatchers, but why not as a practical piece of gear for
bikers? Imagine the appreciative remarks one of these would generate
from passing Rednecks.

And to promote it, we can get a fictional Victorian detective to wear one!

Garrison Hilliard, who has never stalked a deer in one...

I've seen those. They are ultimate fred, and
further, they are really useless -- if you need
front and back protection, you also need
protection for the ears.

That's why I wear the hat with the brim all the
way around at such times.

Well, I really meant in the context of doing
such things as fishing or working, not when
on a bicycle...

Oh, is he talking about deerstalkers?

The only Englishman I've ever seen wearing one was a quite psychotic fellow.
Absolute loon.

He wore it so that people would get unpleasant comments so that he could
start fights.

Every deerstalker I've seen does have ear-laps.

Drat, and double drat! I've had something
like that formulating in the back of my
head since the first post in this thread,
but never quite came up with it...

That wouldn't be those silly fred-ish double
sided baseball caps, then; that would be a
hunting hat. I'd wear one if it was cold, but
I wouldn't want my head to be drenched in
sweat on a hot day.

It's properly called a deerstalker though most commonly known as a
"Sherlock Holmes Hat". [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

What I think of as a "hunting hat" with ear flaps are generally called
a "Trooper Hat" and they're usually fur lined.
