opinion on Windsor bikes

Yep, a newbie here. I just saw the Windsor bikes listed on eBay. Never
seen or heard of them before but they do look nice. Any opinions on these
bikes? I'm looking at the Fen.

tia,

Richard

They're Mexican-made copies of Italian racing bikes... a few individual bikes are fine, but most show sloppy manufacturing.

Ah, the Windsor of Eddy Merckx fame. (Eddy set the world hour record
on a Colnago[?] with Windsor decals affixed.)

Windsors were made in Mexico in the 70s as I recall. Nothing
outstanding about them. Could this possibly be another eBay
reincarnation (ala Motobecane), where the rights to a defunct name are
bought and bikes built in China? The name Fen doesn't ring a bell.

I was right. Checked out the eBay auctions on the "Windsor" and found
the following for these aluminum bikes:

"Thanks for your interest {please e-mail us for a free picture of
Eddie [sic] Merckx setting cycling's most impressive record - 49.431
km in one hour - a record that has stood for over 30 years on guess
what bike}"

See:

for the true story of Eddy's hour record.

"At the last moment Windsor stickers were slapped on Eddy's otherwise
unlabeled bike. A distracted Merckx saw this as an acceptable way to
thank his Mexican hosts (Windsor is a Mexican bike), but Colnago was
infuriated."
