gray market kurt fluid trainers and warranty coverage
there are lots of kurt fluid trainers on ebay for $100 less than kurt
themselves are selling them. however, kurt says they will not service
these gray market trainers at all.
i'm curious how kurt can establish whether a particular trainer was
sold thru official channels or not.
it's pretty common for people to misplace their purchase receipts or
receive an item as a gift w/o any sort of receipt. in those cases, i'm
sure that kurt would be compelled to provide service, even if the owner
agrees to pay for it.

Do they have serial numbers? That's the usual way of tracking whether items
were originally shipped for overseas sale.

Sometimes there are serial numbers, and sometimes simply a different color
for part of the assembly. But aside from that, there's an increasing trend
to require receipts for returns, period, particularly if the product has
been made for a longer time than the warranty (in other words, where the
warranty might have expired based on purchase date). In most cases, a
customer with a misplaced receipt can obtain a copy from the place they
purchased the product (which we do for customers frequently).
