gray market kurt fluid trainers and warranty coverage

there are lots of kurt fluid trainers on ebay for $100 less than kurt
themselves are selling them. however, kurt says they will not service
these gray market trainers at all.

i'm curious how kurt can establish whether a particular trainer was
sold thru official channels or not.

it's pretty common for people to misplace their purchase receipts or
receive an item as a gift w/o any sort of receipt. in those cases, i'm
sure that kurt would be compelled to provide service, even if the owner
agrees to pay for it.

thoughts?
