Thank you for proving my point.

The above reasoning is why I might consider getting a minivan, but never
an SUV (except for possibly an old IH Scout, which has negative social
status value).

Maggie,
Have you noticed all the 'single' or single mentality types on this
group yet? If any are married it makes me wonder for how long or how in
the first place. My wife is trying to talk me into a "tadah" 'Big assed
Motor Home' to hual us and my biking stuff around. SUV, hah, get out of
my way or be part of the pavement. I think she wants to live in it and
just drive around the country, part for me to bike and part for her to
shop. Now if I could just part with all my stuff, about 2 U-Hauls worth.

Chill out. I have no idea what the heck white penis power is. Ever
since I started posting it seems to be a major topic of conversation.
I don't own a fat ass SUV and when I had kids, I was the "station
wagon" generation.

This thread started with how to break the news of an expensive purchase
to the spouse....it has turned numerous corners since it began.

Good Communication and a newsgroup thread does not seem to be
compatible in my opinion. The threads jump from one topic to another.
Someone starts out with a serious bicycle subject and 10 post later
someone is taling about White Penis power, politics, abortion, or
imitating Red Clouds posts.

Anyway, Are you serious? Where am I saying only people of non color
drive SUV's.

I think people who want to keep threads on topic and not be annoyed by
stupid posts, such as mine, should join the moderated Newsgroups.
There are alot of them. I am sure they are boring as hell. Live is a
smorgasboard of inane rants posted to Newgroups of every type. Unless
moderated. That's what I have found anyone. Bicycles.misc is not the
only one, many are worse.
All Good Things,
Maggie.

The Scout is/ was a sporty young persons' vehicle that often ends up
being a hot rod. It's the Travelall that is scorned unless you're a
Hutterite family with a death wish or towing a period piece Airstream.

I don't own a fat assed SUV, nor a skinny assed one for all that matter.
Two economy cars, one for my wife, one for my daughter, and a 1966 fire
breathing hot rod for me when I can justify a quickly burned tank of
gas. A 400 HP 440 Mopar is just not the kind of thing you just trash as
it actually goes up in value the longer I keep it, so here it stays. My
wife actually hates my bikes more.

And yes we do need a moderator or some way to keep these insane 6 way
multi posted + NASCAR idiots far, far away.

Well, I may be going for a car/van/truck for business use but it will be
a real wheel drive that has a stick with at least 5 speeds, preferably 6
for overdrive and double overdrive. Then I can change the rear axle to a
highway gear and get over 40 MPG with a car, close to 30 with a truck,
and 20+ with even a full sized van. I had a 1961 Rambler flathead that I
did that with and got a solid 35-36 MPG at 65 MPH with an aerodynamic
brick, and a 1969 Ford van, no overdrive but went from a 3.90 rear gear
to a passenger car 2.56 and jumped from 11 MPG spinning the engine to
17-20 at a near idle RPM with a big six (240"). The factory never has
and still doesn't give you the best gears for economy. I know this is a
bit off topic for bikes but it proves that you can improve either a bike
or a car by changing it for what you want. My next project was to put
sheet metal plating on the bottoms of the two vehicles to get rid of the
main air resistance and try to add 3-5 MPG each, but, duh, I sold them
before that. The most slick looking car on top can be an aero pig on the
bottom and have a crummy gear to defeat the mileage potential but nobody
seems to look that far. Rear wheel drive and a stick gives you pretty
much all the control you need plus you can change transmissions and rear
gears to get optimized. Try that with front wheel drive, not gonna happen.
Bill Baka, still a mechanic, even after 30+ years of electronics.
