I didn't want to mess with it. It isn't like I couldn't ride through it,
because I certainly have before when it is icy, but I didn't want to expend
the mental and emotional energy. So I loaded it on the bus at the P/R before
that, and then unloaded at Rainier Blvd and rode downtown, ice-free, from
there.
On the way home, I thought that the sun beating down all day, even if it was
cold, the ice would be gone. So I rode the whole way back. That swamp is
such a cold sink! Even though every bit of frost/ice had indeed melted on
the other parts of the route, and it was warm enough for me to shed my
sweater and my poly-pro cap for the ride home, there was still frost and
iced-over puddles through that section.
That it was as cold today as it is sometimes in the deepest part of the
winter makes me wonder what kind of weather is going to unfold the next few
months.
Also, I'd note: my song for the way in was the Christian hymn, "Take Me As I
Am". [1] I sang the Havdallah service [2] for the way home.

[1] The words are:
Take O take me as I am
Summon out what I shall be
Set Your seal upon my heart
And live in me
[2] I started off with the basic blessings at the beginning of the ride, and
by the time I was on the final mile on the way home, I was at Shavuah Tov,
which goes:
Shavuah Tov [repeats]
A good week, a week of peace
May gladness reign and joy increase

Doubt it. You're thinking this: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
This time of year I wear an industrial strength +3 level nightie, that goes
from my ears to my ankles. Think more like this: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I forgot how drafty my new clip-in shoes are and didn't bring plastic
bags for my toes...Brrrr. Nice sunrise though.

I think everyone's body temp regulates just a little differently. My husband
is hotter, apparently, than most people most of the time. In contrast, I
"sleep cold" and "run hot". If I'm not moving around, I get cold very
easily. My arms, shoulders, neck, and feet in particular get cold while
sleeping. Sitting at the computer, I nearly always have a blanket on me. But
I find that if I'm riding a bike, I'm often apparently much warmer than
everyone else -- they'll be in multiple thick and thin layers, where I have
already shed my jacket -- that sort of thing.
Warm Regards,
Claire Petersky

I know what you mean. The older I get the more like a lizard I become.
I.E., I like the heat, 85F. or hotter is a good riding day for me...
