>>yea, ummm, hello. so given ludicrous choice (a) you pick trails. maybe

Strange as it may seem to you,
1. I enjoy riding along a beautiful creek and river away from cars, noise and
congestion
2, I really have no desire to directly breathe diesel smoke and other
particulates and unknown chemicals directly from the exhausts of cars and buses
into my nose.
3, I don't desire to joust constantly with SUV's and other monstrosities
driven by folks about whom I know absolutely nothing - (are they drunk? did
they fight with their wife or GF this am - or did they even sleep at all last
night? Do they have any brakes? Do they hate bikers and want to push me off
of the road or kill me? Are they carrying a gun and want to shoot me? Have
they recently been sick? Has their vision deteriorated so they can't see me?)
and trusting to their driving skills, which most likely have not been measured
in years. I would much rather take my chances with fellow bikers (and even a
pedestrian or two - there are never many at 7:00 am) on a really nicely
constructed path, such as the Platte River Trail.
Relaxing, enjoyable, close to nature, car free travel. You can't beat it.
I know this is most difficult for you to understand. But, it is the way I (and
apparently thousands of other bikers) like to travel.
Enough of this. You will never see my viewpoint and I will never understand
yours. BUT, my viewpoint is prevailing and yours is losing. Sorry about that.
Onward with good bike paths.
Have a good day.

none of which detracts from the only point i was making:
it sucks to ride on the roads in aurora.

i do see your viewpoint. you don't like to ride on roads. you like trails.
but see mine:
if we don't fight for rideable roads we will eventually lose them. and
we will all be on your trails. so much attention is being devoted to trails
in that area that no one even cares about keeping the roads safe for bicycles.
damn, look at bicycle aurora's home page:
Bicycle Aurora
Promoting a safe, planned, logical and connected bicycle trail/route
system that will improve the quality of life in Aurora, Colorado.
yea .. rock on.
look at their Mission:
.. To advise Aurora City Government on ways to make bicycle trails in Aurora
safer and friendlier for all citizens.
.. To introduce citizens to the existing and planned Aurora bicycle trail
system.
oh boy.
: Onward with good bike paths.
: Have a good day.
enjoy your segregation.

1. "And sure enough, about one second later they cut in between
me and the car in front of me. Of course, in the process damn near
giving me a heart attack as I grab my brake to slow down."
2. "The guy panics, realizes I'm not going 10 MPH, so it's going to take him
too long to pass. He tries to dart over as soon as he passes me, starts
to skid, slams on his brakes, starts to slide more (remember - it's
raining), over-corrects, tries to correct again. He ends up doing a
beautiful bootlegger and ends up neatly parked in the opposite lane
facing me. The oncoming car is stopped with about one foot to spare
from his rear bumper. The only thing really marring a perfect score was
he did manage to take out a traffic sign of some variety by sideswiping
it."
I rest my case. I don't want to be on the road with drivers like that. Sorry.

that wasn't criticism. it was name-calling (deprogrammed?).

Man, you have trail enemies all over the place, not just in Aurora!
From the Boulder Area Trails Commission:
>Help Preserve, Create, and Enhance Environmentally Responsible Trails Systems
and Boulder County
*The Boulder Area Trails Coalition is a group of environmentalists, hikers,
equestrians, and bicyclists who believe it is in everyone's best interest to
work together on trail issues.* Our mission is to promote non-motorized,
multi-use, environmentally responsible trail systems.* By joining together we
can fulfill the vision accessible healthy open lands. Your skills, involvement,
and financial resources are needed and welcome.
and from "American Trails"
>Who we are
American Trails is the only national, nonprofit organization working on behalf
of all trail interests, including hiking, bicycling, mountain biking, horseback
riding, water trails, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, trail motorcycling,
ATVs, snowmobiling and four-wheeling. American Trails members want to create
and protect America's network of interconnected trails. We support local,
regional, and long-distance trails and greenways, whether they be in
backcountry, rural or urban areas. Our goal is to support America's trails by
finding common ground and promoting cooperation among all trail interests.
We're involved in everything from training trails advocates to providing
increased trail opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

s/enemies/advocates/ ?
sorry. we had been talking about aurora. aurora seems to have been given up
(like yourself) on the roads. my point was their site made not one mention
of making the roads safer .. not merely that they advocated trails.
