I've see bicycles with V treads pointing forward and backwards.
On the tread, does the bottom of the 'V' point forward or backwards?
Which way does the tread go on a Mountain bike tire?

Look for the arrow.
Failing that, I've read that the label should go to the right.
Micro-tread on street tires probably doesn't make any difference.

If there is no other way to tell (label on drive side, arrow on tire) then
looking down at the front wheel from the top (sitting on the bike like you
were riding), the V's should be pointing forward. Theory is the pattern
sheds mud better that way. Most other kinds of dirt tires I've seen are
like that too (ATV, Bulldozer etc.).
Nothing bad will happen if you get it wrong though ...
