Why do bikers ride on the street instead of the sidewalk?

I see this in the suburbs and in the city.

"Bikers" ride a Harley, not a bicycle. Your serious bicycle rider often rides at 25Mph and more. It is not safe to ride on the sidewalk. In many areas you will get a ticket for it. A bicycle rider must follow the same rules and laws as a car or motorcycle.
