Is cycling a good cardio work out?

But I want to avoid building too much muscle, is it correct that cycling would lead to building muscles in your leg? I'm uncertain as to whether it would because people often say cycling is solely a cardio excercie.

It is not solely a cardio exercise. That said, it is a great cardio workout if you want it to be. Leisurely riding is the same effect as walking. Riding a good pace, say 15-18 mph, will give you the work out of jogging. Intervals will give you a fantastic cardio work out.

Your leg muscles will tone and define. I don't see cyclists legs bulking up. Building muscles - yes, just not large mass.
