BMX brake problem?

I just bought a We The People BMX bike and assembled it myself (it was mail order). It rides excellent except one thing. The brakes make a hideous grinding/squealing noise when applied at just about any speed. It's extremely loud and I can think of no explanation for it. The calipers are properly aligned with the rim, the rim (to my touch) seems to have no imperfections... they work perfectly fine, I just want the squealing to go away. Anybody have any suggestions?
