As anybody put a 52/40/30 chain set and 11/26 cassette on a mountain bike with - Cycling Mob: Road Cycling, Mountain Biking and More

slick tyres? I want a tough frame for my daily commute to and from work, I currently use a racer with flat handle bar but I can't take any short cuts on that to shorten my commute because given a racer that sort of abuse may damage the frame. So I've been thinking buying a mountain with rigid forks, upgrading and transferring some parts from the racer on to the mountain bike to give it road performance and having a slightly tougher frame and wheels to take commuting abuse. Anybody out done this to a mountain bike and can you keep up with the roadies and what slick tyre should I go for.
