Cycling shin splints?

I was spinning thismorning for 90 mins at race pace in a spinning class. stong uphills, fast downhills. Could I have got them easily or was the length too much on a spinning bike ? or was I cycling with my feet in the wrong possition ?

NOTE: I do cycle 100km's in under 3 hours, so I am used to the road distance

I get those when I point my feet instead of keeping my foot flat by pushing my heel down when I pedal. Did you get them just above your ankle line, at the bottom of your shin? If so, that means its from pointing your feet when they should be flat.
