Blackburn mag trainer, a few questions...?

I just bought a blackburn mag trainer, there was a piece in the box that looks like the front tire "axel" (you know the pin that holds and locks the front tire).. what is that for with the trainer? The instructions didn't mention anything..

Also the resistence levels... the "in" position (the knob beeing all the way in) is that the strongest resistance, the pull it out a little and thats less, and all the way out is even less... or is it the other way around...

How much pressure should be on the back tire, up againt the roller?

The "pin" Is your wheel skewer that comes with the trainer which is usually a little different on the end and heavier duty to get locked into the trainer( Used on back wheel ) All the way in makes the magnet closer to the trainer and thus makes the resistance harder. Enough pressure should be applied to make it difficult for the wheel to slip on the trainer. I usually hold the trainer still and try to move the bike wheel with my other hand to gage if it ia tight enough. Also make sure your tires are properly inflated prior to tightening. Happy Training!

The skewer is in case the skewer that came on your bike is too large to fit the clamps on the trainer. Use it because it is steel and your bike may have aluminum skewers. It's easy to change -- don't even lift the bike off the ground to do it. Take one off and replace it with the new one.

You have the resistance levels pretty correct -- as soon as you mount it you will know.

Put enough pressure from the roller on the tire so that your tire doesn't slip. You can check this by mounting the bike on the trainer, tighten the knob, pedal the bike with your hand and squeeze the back brake hard while it is coasting. If the tire slips -- repeat the sequence till slippage goes away.

Have fun, don't forget your box fan to have blowing on you for cooling, and a towel draped over the top bar and handle bars to fend off sweat drips.

EDIT: If your bike doesn't have a rear skewer (the axle thing you referred to) then you don't need the one supplied at all.
