Reasons to get a new bicycle?

I have a bicycle now, its a Raleigh M800. I have had it for about 5 years now and put over 5000 miles on it. I had about 2 major crashes on it and 1 minor. Everything on the bike is still fine, but the rear triangle of the bike is slightly bent... the wheel is a bit crooked but still ridable. The shifting sometimes skips and sometimes delays though... Is it time I get a new bike? how should I convince my parents?
