Are Yakima SKS locks a deterrent against theft? It seems to me anyone could buy...

...the keys and help themselves? You can buy all the keys on ebay or directly from yakima so why should I buy sks keys and locks for my new rack and attachments?

I don't know why you should. I wouldn't. change locks to non Yakima. Yakima doesn't make locks they make racks. They source the locks for assembly. Go to a lock shop and find what will fit with a totally different style key and have it installed. Make yourself a spare key to put away in case you loose your primary set.
