My son is almost 8 years old, about 64 pounds and he is outgrowing his bike. I am looking into buying a new bike for him for the spring but I want it to be a surprise. When I went to Wal-Mart they had some that were 20 inches that I think he would love (Patriots and Red Sox) but don't know if it will be the right size?
The employees at Toys R Us knew about bikes!! You don't have to buy it there but I would go there and ask. The size they recommended for our 5 year old was perfect.
Dicks Sporting Goods - the person there knew as well although the bikes were for older kids so may be able to help you.
One thing they pointed out I never thought of was ARM length. We were so worried about height we didn't think about that.
You can bring along your child to the shopping complex to try on every bike that your child likes it. I recommend you to buy a ride height adjustable bicycle!!!
Well, a 20" is maybe OK, maybe not, I can't be certain from what you said. Your child's height matters, his weight doesn't. Bikes commonly come in 12", 16", 20", 24" wheel sizes for kids. If he out grew his current one get him the next size larger.
Have him sit on a bike and see how well he fits. Can his feet touch the ground? I think a 20 inch bike would be just about right but I would still have him sit on one first.
