Tanking

I'm wondering if anybody does any special relaxation techniques to
rejuvenate the body, such as tanking?

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Cycling can be a very relaxing passtime, but a very demanding sport at the
upper levels (master of understatement, here, lol)

I'm wondering at the idea of a tank in the RV for RAAM events and stuff, in
addition to the massage therapy. Of course it might be pricey, but I'm
talking theory and stuff.

Off to ride 0824, 30deg C, and cloudy...

You're a SEAL who dropped out of BUDS?

"Class 147 was only the third BUDS class to earn the "no bell" prize, so
named because any student can ring a brass bell three times if he wants to
quit. "The class has to be really tight, with good leaders and good
students, to win the 'no bell,' " said Simet. "In this class we had strong
officers who the men looked up to a lot. That helped them pull through Hell
Week without anybody quitting."

I've done it ... but not with any fancy equipment. I mean, do you need
anything major? I used to just take a bath, shut the lights off and put on
some good music.

Personally if I was going to spend money I would spend it on a Jacuzzi.

I really don't know, but you piqued my curiosity.
Googling around turned up this:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

which refers to experiment results published by the
British Journal of Sports Medicine (April 2000), pertaining
to the efficacy of sports massage, particularly in reduction
of lactate levels. I Googled around a little more on that
particular report. The results of this (I believe inconclusive)
experiment seem to suggest that sports massage is no more effective
at reducing blood lactate levels than passive rest, and active
warm-down techniques may be more effective than either.

Since we're disregarding cost, I also looked into hyperbaric
oxygen chambers, which don't seem terribly useful in terms of
post-ride recovery. Maybe they might have some use for high
altitude acclimatization, or recovery from some types of injury.

To rejuvenate the body, a nice dinner followed by a snooze
works for me :-)

cheers,
Tom

....but it sure is far more enjoyable. There's something to be said
for that, surely--we're not just biomechanical constructs. We like to
feel good after hard effort.

Or at least some of us do.

Anquetil might have said so himself. And who am I to argue with
Anquetil?
