bicycle safety

I'm new to riding and would like to learn more about street smarts and
riding safely (mostly with regard to automobiles). I'm aware of John
Forester's 600 page "Effective Cycling", but would like to see something
smaller which distills this info into something much shorter (and perhaps
something more updated??).

Any recommendations for short books, pamphlets, web sites, etc. which would
do this?

Thanks!

Boatman
