| Info anyone? Redline Mojave, 80's MTB w/roller cams, power ratchet thumbies, etc. Hi,
I just acquired a Redline Mojave mountain bike built in the first half
of the 1980s (crank dates from 1984) and I can't find any info about
it on the web or USENET. I'm not even sure what info I'm looking for.
Testimonials, perhaps (It's great! It sucks!), or maybe who built the
frame for Redline (still has its Made In Taiwan sticker), or if
Redline built all of its frames in Taiwan at that time.
If somebody knows something, any random info would be great.
Specs:
TIG welded 4130 frame with horizontal rear dropouts
Suntour XC power ratchet thumbies
XC Sport front/rear ders.
XC-POWER roller cam brakes f/r, rears mounted on the seat stays
beautiful Shimano 6206 crank with odd gearing: 50t/45t/32t
6spd Winner freewheel
UKAI rims with U-K-A-I spelled out on stickers between spokes
With the horizontal dropouts and the freewheel, I'm tempted to make
this a single speed or fixed gear. I fear I'll regret messing with it
if it somehow turns out to be a museum piece. Also, for some reason
this has become my favorite bike to ride right now, over my much more
modern Specialized Rockhopper and Novara Ponderosa. I'm not sure I
want to change anything.
What's up with this freakin' bike?
Thanks,
Steve |
