Like I said I do it for fun and exercise, and wearing plain old generic
sneakers allows me to get off and do some rock climbing if I find myself
in the mood. Some of the trails dead end into rock climbs and I can't
just give up. I don't ride anywhere near a city and prefer a few deer as
a 'traffic jam'. Just don't want to find any bears.

You don't seem to have figured out yet that nobody cares what you do. Do
what you want. Have fun.

Your problem is that you don't offer other people the same respect. Your
disrespectfulness is what is undoubtedly causing you to be rapidly killfiled
by everybody in the newsgroup.

So have a plonky day.

I had a great 2 hour road ride yesterday, I remember thinking just how much I
enjoy honking along in a big gear on a flat stretch of road, down flat on the
aerobars, firing on all cylinders, eating up the miles. Just came back from a
several hour off-road ride, way fun. The area I was riding is a ski center in
the winter, plenty of steep, rocky trails. When we do group rides here, and
hit sections of trail that can't be ridden, we shoulder our bikes and hike or
run with them. I've used sneakers, nothing wrong with them (except they're not
real safe), I much prefer bike shoes with SPDs. It doesn't cost much, most of
my pedal/shoe combos were under $100. We're just a few miles outside of
Boston, saw a deer today -- not unusual, my son saw a red tail make a squirrel
kill, no bears though.

It's all good.
