I've now gotten to the point where I need to take more care of my, uh,
seating arrangements. Just can't slap on the clean bike shorts and go.
Now I gotta well, be sure I don't get butt overuse injuries, let's
just say. Even though I don't have 'numb butt', I get small cuts at
this # of miles, it seems.

Biking control my life? That's only of the good for us retirees! ;-p

Your 16 is on grade. Mine is on flats - Va Bch, remember, haha. Plus
my rides are short, 90 min, so easier to have a higher average speed.

Short fast rides allow you to build up speed... Keep at it!

I'm beginning to suspect that I, too, am hooked. On Sunday, I snuck
out for a ride before my gf woke up, and hid the evidence when I
returned. Then, when a relative was saying she used to ride with my
gf every week but now my gf doesn't want to, I asked her to
encourage more riding, and we could all go together. If she
succeeds, it will probably mean 5 to 8 miles at an avg no higher
than 10 mph on Sundays, but it's better than sitting around
miserably trying to figure out what to do with our time.

No kidding. 16 is definitely "fast" for me; 15 is what I get riding
with a group on Tuesday nights, and I feel good with it. Anywhere
between 14 and 12 when I'm alone on Saturdays. The Tuesday night
group has gotten me higher speeds -- a 20 mile ride at 18 avg
once...but 17 is better than "not too bad".
Although, Badger did say he's riding flat terrain. If I was riding
flat stuff, maybe I'd average 17 too. Going uphill kills my avg.
