Why won't my Wheel inflate?

I have just bought a new bicycle pump (for a fairly 'new' bicycle) and
need to pump the back wheel up a bit.
I attach the pump to the valve with the novel firmly screwed into
place and.. well nothing, the air will not go anywhere as if the seal
between the two is bloacked.
I have checked that air can come out with a little presure in the
valve but still can't get any air in!

Any suggestions/tips why this might be?

Hi Rhandolph -

In order to help you, we need to know what type of
valve you are using, Shrader or Presta. Here are
pictures of the two types:

Re: Why won't my Wheel inflate?

It's definitely a Schrada valve.
