Watch out! I almost got run over by some drunk I didn't even know was there.
It's usually possible to ensure you've blocked the straight through option
while still leaving room for turns by moving ahead instead of the the left.
I've had impatient types zip through on the right too. I no longer assume
what they are going to do.

As long as you're going the same speed or faster than
other traffic, take whatever lane you want.

One thing overlooked by the imams here (not
surprising) is the danger posed by the drivers
in the right lane. You got a line of cars stop-and-go
in the right lane, somebody's stuck over there that
doesn't want to be there. Drivers have a hard
enough time seeing you when you're right in front
of em, forget about it when you're coming up from
behind em on one side. An impatient driver with
average vision stomps the accelerator and rams his
car right into you. So if you're going to pass a line of
cars like that, leave as much space as you can and
keep an eagle-eye out for the inevitable intrusion.
