Old hub locknut question

I did a stupid thing today. Overtightened the QR on my little
brother's old Follis and heard a sickening CRACK as the rear hub
locknut broke in half.

Can I just replace the locknut with a new one? I know axles are
replaceable--are locknuts? This is an old French bicycle--are the
locknuts some oddball size/threading that I'm not liable to find,
ever? I tried interchanging it with the locknut of a spare/junk front
wheel we had lying about the house, and found the replacement too
small.
