I forwarded an article I found the other day on alt.sys.pdp10
regarding the death of Jim Mills. I hadn't seen anything about Jim's
death on r.b.*, but my posting only generated a pointless discussion
regarding top-posting. In an effort to learn more I found the
following via a search on Google News. It's from "Palo Alto Online
News".

Menlo Park Cyclist Killed
A man who was thrown from his bicycle and killed Wednesday after
attempting to negotiate a curve on state Highway 17 has been
identified as 65-year-old James Mills of Menlo Park, a Santa Clara
County Coroner's spokeswoman said today.
Officers responding to the northbound lanes of the highway near Los
Gatos around 2:45 p.m. found the cyclist between the guardrail and a
chain-link fence.
According to a CHP report, Mills was coming downhill at about 30 mph
and entering a curve to the left when he failed to make the turn, hit
the guardrail and was thrown into the chain-link fence
Mills, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have determined that no other vehicles were involved in
the deadly accident.
An avid bicyclist, Mills had been riding for all of his life and took
bike trips throughout France and other countries, according to family
friend Betsy Sutter.
Sutter said that Mills, who was out with friends on a typical six-hour
bike ride at the time of the accident, had never been in any kind of
crash before.
"He's a very experienced cyclist," Sutter said. "This is quite a shock
to everyone."
Mills leaves behind a wife, two daughters and one grandchild,
according to Sutter.

I'm wondering if anyone else has more information regarding Jim's
accident.
As I said in my previous article I worked with Jim many, many years
ago at DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation - RIP) in Massachusetts. In
answer to a question raised by another responder, alt.sys.pdp10 is a
newsgroup for veterans of DEC's PDP-10 timesharing system. Jim worked
in compiler development on that system and I worked in operating
system development.
