Yeah, the Captain is a pretty amazing dude as well. Did you know he and
FZ were childhood friends? I'm guessing you probably did. I bet they
were the "weird kids".

Bongo Fury is still a favorite album of mine...

I had to google that dude sine it's been like 30 years since I've heard
that name [capt beefheart].
The Wikipedia article was funny --- said he was a freak and spoiled brat.

But sounds like he's suffering with MS now.

I think FZ was at his best around that mid to late 70s era. Zoot Allures
is another great album right around there. I stopped buying his stuff
around 1980 or so because a lot of it just seemed way over the top and
silly. But looking back, it looks like there is some other good stuff I
haven't heard.

My favorites are 'Trout Mask Replica', or 'Clear Spot' (if I'm in a
more commercial music mood). The latter could get air play today
(over 30 years later) and sound cutting edge.

Trout Mask Replica has one of my all-time favorite songs:

"Oh momma who cares
It's the blimp it's the blimp."

I never fail to start singing it any time I see a blimp floating around
here.

I'm sorry to hear about his possible MS diagnosis. I've always held out
hope that he would set down his art for awhile and tour with the Magic
Band. I own almost all the Captain Beefheart albums, their last 3 along
with Trout Mask Replica are all brilliant.

A true classic. My brother and I will try to work "it's the blimp"
into conversation occasionally.

I often wonder if it's an anthem for blimp pilots the world over.

Me too - I've always hoped that I'd get to see a live performance... I
have to believe it would be unlike any other concert experience (with
the possible exception of Zappa, who I did see live once).

I've got most all of 'em too - still looking for a copy of Ice Cream
for Crow though. I know there's a video floating around for it, but
it got very little air play on the music video megacorporation
channel. Sigh...

A friend of mine put "Tropical Hot Dog Night" on a mixed cassette a
while ago. Pretty amazing stuff, and not what I expected: a sort of
doped-down Zappa. (Who talks about their relationship in his
autobiography which is great and steeped in Zappaness.)

Gotta get me some more of that shiz.

I have a copy of it I taped off of Night Flights on USA Network way back
when. Don running around Joshua Trees in Palmdale like a crazy man.

I've been digitizing my vinyl the last couple of years, if I ever get
around to digitizing some videos I'll put it up online.
