What's a good mountain bike for me?

My brother races mountain bikes, and I'd love to get into it. He has a Yeti F.R.O., and I'd love a yeti as well, but they're so expensive.

I'm 5'2" and don't know what size bike I'd need. I'd like a hard tail with disk brakes...I'd like a woman specific bike, but I'm not quite sure where to start. I'm on a limited budget as well, as I'm saving for a car and for college.

I'm 5'3" and I ride a Trek 820. If you're on a budget, I'd look at that. It's nothing fancy but has pretty good components for a bike in it's price range. I think it was about $250-300.
