Always wear bike pants, they might look a bit silly, but it really helps (that's why professionals use them). And the pain usually gets better after you've been riding for a longer time (the first few days are always the most painfull).

If you go to a biking store they can find you a seat that works for you. Sometimes the gel ones don't work all that well.

You can buy a wider seat. And they make some that are really comfortable.

Does your bottom feel numb after you ride? If so, the culprit is most likely the gel seat. Gel seats feel good at first, but it puts pressure on places that aren't supposed to have pressure. When you sit down on a nice bike seat, you feel pressure on two spots of your bottom. This keeps the pressure off of the nerves in between your legs. With a gel seat, you sink down in it and then you have pressure on the nerves in between your legs, causing much discomfort. It is also a good idea to get a women's specific seat because men and women are shaped differently. I suggest that you go to a bike shop. They should let you test out some saddles there. Ask them for suggestions on how to choose the right saddle.
