10 times .66 (or 2/3)=6.6 miles. The mountain part of the trail is 6.6 miles long.(Multiply the total distance by the mountainous distance.)

Division and multiplication are inverses of each other. If you can divide, then you can reverse that and multiply as well. You will need to use decimals however.

2/3 of ten miles, right? So since 2/3 is smaller than a whole, multiply 10 x 2/3 for your answer. (The answer will be right when you multiply because 2/3 of anything is less than the whole thing so you are taking the whole thing and multiplying it by LESS than the whole thing....)

try rephrasing, you may understand the question better

two-thirds of Jose's bike ride was on a mountain trail
he rode a total of ten miles

10 is the whole, you need to find 2/3 of 10

If the total distance is only 10 miles, multiply 10 by 2/3 (or 10/1 x 2/3= 20/3). The mountain trail would then be 6.666666....( into infinity, because 20 cannot be divided evenly by 3) miles long. If 10 miles represents the 2/3, the answer is 15 miles total (15 x 2/3 =15/1 x 2/3= 30/3=10).
