You are quite right. I stand corrected and chastened, seriously.

On behalf of rec.bike, I announce that you are hereby forgiven, pardoned, and
granted atonement. Go and sin no more, and have fun.

(By coincidence, it's Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement in Judaism.)

Who let YOU in here?!?

Bill "ol' Badge ain't even SEEN severe tongue lashing yet" S.

PS: My two cents is to try a nicer greeting than yelling, "Bike!" You
know, something like, "Hi. Coming up on your left; mind if I pass?"
Stranger things have proven effective...

I was surprised Stella didn't tear him a new one, knowing Stella.

I think this atonement stuff is getting to her, she posts once
in four months and it's all this kissy **** about apologies and
so forth.

I definitely think this ng is going downhill, even Jobst has been
remarkably civil of late.

I always use the bell about 100 meters from peds... even then they get this
"deer in the headlights" look. There should be a sign at every entry point
for peds. "YOU'RE ENTERING A MULTI-USE TRAIL".

And...

The dog on the leash is typically a problem on multi-use trails.

The skaters think they own the trail... the walkers think they own the
trail... and bicyclists think they own the trail... and the runners hate
everyone.

Keep your finger on the bell!

Don't worry about it... there's a faction of bicyclist that mow down
everything in their way while doing 20 MPH on multi-use trails. No respect
for peds... skaters... or anyone else for that matter. Run red-lights...
stop signs... and announcing a pass wouldn't even enter they minds. (To
cook to be courteous... to much of a moron to use common sense).

It's best just to keep your eyes open... use your bell when passing... and
pass with care. Or... hit the streets.

I'm sinning[*] right now, and having loads more fun than
any non-sinning can getcha.

/Gotta/ sin to have fun.

cheers,

[*] Gluttony -- I just designed a remarkably savoury and
tender baked minute steak w/ mushroom & tomato gravy; I'm
washing it down with enough of The Good Stuff to establish
a relatively moderate buzz.

I recall a certain Yankees/Mariners game at the KingDome.
Things weren't going the Mariners' way at all. Chuck Cottier
got so flustered, he kicked-up a hell of a fuss, pulling
the base bags outa the ground and hucking them all over the
field. Veins were bulging in his forehead, he was so angry.
And of course, he got kicked outa the game.

During a subesquent interview, Billy Martin said in regards
to Cottier's actions: "I think that guy's gotta learn to
control his temper."

I guess the trick to dealing with the annoyances of MUPs is
to be Billy Martin, rather than Chuck Cottier. Or if you
can pull the saintliness off (I admittedly can't, myself):
Sparky Anderson :-) :-) :-)

cheers,
Tom

In Billy Martin's current state, not much would likely annoy him.
