Problem with Shimano pedals and cycling shoe

Hi,
I'm having a strange problem with my cycling shoe rubbing on my pedal on
one side. It seems to be a squeaking of the hard rubber of the shoe on some
part of my pedal or pedal shaft, and I can't figure out what it is.

I have the Shimano 520 pedal and a MTB shoe:

Any ideas on how to track this down? My pedals and shoes are relatively
new, not more than three months old and only about 1000 miles on them.

I don't see any unusual wear pattern on the shoe or the cleat, they're
fine. I do see some paint off of my pedal shaft, but that's to the inside
near the frame and the squeak seems to be coming from the outside like the
little toe side of the shoe. I've oiled the pedal. That's not it, I don't
think.

If I move my foot within the float, and press forward to the toe the
squeaking will stop, but when I relax and pedal normally, it comes back.

My thought is to take it to the LBS and have them put my bike up on a
trainer and then watch me pedal and look underneath, but I though before I
went to that extreme, I'd check here and see if anyone else has had this.

It's more annoying than problematic. I'm just wary of ignoring the
squeaking of the rubber for fear I'm missing something, and have totally
misdiagnosed the problem.

I'm not sure when a shoe or pedal should wear out, but I'd think it
wouldn't be this quick.

TIA

jj
