Looking at the diagram of the generator, it appears that a magnet on the
spokes sweeps over a "tumbling magnet", which, in turn, generates current in
a surrounding coil. Why didn't the designer simply let the field from the
spoke magnet do the generating?

Another thought: Couldn't a cyclometer be integrated into this setup, since
it operates off of wheel rotation? The front flashing light and cyclometer
display could be combined.

current. But it will cause the tumbling magnet to flip rapidly,
generating a current pulse. During slow rotation it stores energy in
