bike chain kinds/sizes? - Cycling Mob: Road Cycling, Mountain Biking and More

i have a really messed up rusted bmx bike chain and i want to replace it but i cant tell what kind it is.
Theres different kinds like 1/2", 5/32", 1/8", 3/32", etc.

what do these numbers mean?

The size of the chain. and the size of each "section".

1/2" is the pitch, bike chain width is either 1/8" or 3/32" nowadays.

The BMX chain will be 1/8", modern derailleurs use 3/32" which is 1/32" narrower, in the old days derailleurs started off using 1/8" too, they often had only 3 or 4 sprockets compared to the modern 5 to 10.

You could have just looked it up yourself using google you know!!! I'm not being grumpy, just pointing out that knowing how to figure out stuff is a good life skill, ok? (I have a "good job" that involves this skill)
