| Cars. People driving them, actually. They don't treat cyclists like human beings, and don't give them the respect that they are legally entitled to. When a person rides their bike in traffic, they have all the rights and responsiblities of a motor vehicle, and almost everyone seems to forget that. Many motorists aren't considerate of the fact that cyclists are actually going somewhere, and expect them to yield the right of way when it's not required of them. I read about cyclists being struck and killed by motorists every week, and it breaks my heart. I don't know how many times I've heard people make comments to the effect that they'll " just run me over " if I happen to get in their way. As if having to momentarily change lane position, yield, or (heavens forbid) slow down, is going to damage their lives beyond repair. Most of these people have kids, and I'm sure they would want their fellow motorists to have enough respect for human life to not run over their children while they ride their bikes around the neighborhood. Plenty of cyclists have children. We are husbands, wives, parents, children, and friends, and have people who love us and want us to be safe.
