If your tube doesn't have a hole in it:
1. the valve may be leaking
2. over a long period of time they will go flat. Even good valves don't seal completely and the tube itself passes air through the rubber very slowly. Cyclist, like me, who keep 100+ PSI in the tires have to pump them up at least once a week because of this fact.

Finally, slow leaks are at times very hard to see, you very well may have a hole but can't find it.

you have a broken air valve which is slowly letting air out, get a new tire tube

It depends how the tire is old when you use it most the flat tire is to old because its quick to leak. If the tire is flat and its new do not throw it you will vulcate into any other vulcanizing shop or you have much more money you place it into a new tire. Its a good idea when the old tire change into a new tire maybe next time the it the old tire will use it again it will leak be it again.

The only possible is that the valve may be leaking.Make sure the valve is intact before continuing.
