In my mid/late-teens I did rides out to Haney, Mission and even Hope
and back with friends & associates, often on borrowed Apollo 10-speeds,
and I wasn't seriously into training or anything like that, and it was
no big deal -- it was just something for a bunch of kids to do.

So I encourage the original poster to go for it, _with_other_people_.
Only, if [s]he can: take a camera. I wish I had pix to look back on
those wonderful trips.

cheers,
Tom

Life is full of adventure. My younger brother and I rode our single
speed bikes c/w heavy steel strap newspaper carriers from Port Coquitlam
to Harrison Hot Springs one summer day when I was 12 and he was 11. We
rode back to the foot of Mt Woodside on Hwy 7 and waited til the folks
picked us up. They thought we were in Pitt Meadows for the day. It
was a great adventure.

I am impressed Tom cuz Hope from Vancouver is exactly 160k if you do
a couple of circles in the parking lot of the campground, so back to
Vancouver would be 320k...a good day indeed.
