I tried the armband and a waist belt and just didn't like either one.
They were both uncomfortable to me. I like having the iPod on the
handlebars so I can see the display. I use it as a timer sometimes, and
it's easier to glance down at it than it is to take one hand off the
handlebars to look at my watch.

Cool story, Ken. I had a similar thing happen with my bike computer. Cat's
Eye - I usually stop on a bridge next to my house to finish the ride. Well
I thought I'd slide the computer off its stand, and put it in my pocket
before lugging the bike through the 50 feet of woods. Wouldn'tcha know it,
the thing launched itself up in the air and headed over the side of the
railing. Slo-mo commenced and I said 'No-o-o-o....' and reached for it like
Roger Maris going for an infield fly. I didn't catch it, but tipped it
enough to make it fall over the bridge and grabbed it with the other hand.
Would -not- have been a fun swim and dive to retrieve it in the muddy
water. ;-p
BTW, although I've heard good things about the iPod, I understand you can
only dl certain types of songs on it and the procedure isn't that easy (no
drag&drop). What's up with that?

That's the one I recommend. It has a drag&drop interface, no cumbersome
software and is small and light, comes with case and other stuff - also
plays FM with presets. Under 80 bucks if you shop around.

The iPod's integration with iTunes in seamless, and it's a breeze to
copy songs to the iPod. It will play MP3 and AAC files. Some people
complain because it doesn't play WMA or Ogg files, but that's not an
issue for me, nor is it really an issue for most people. I've been very
happy with my iPod, especially its durability and battery life. If this
one ever dies, I'll be buying a new one the next day.
The iRock player you mentioned is a good MP3 player, but it's flash
memory based, and I need the capacity the hard drive based iPod gives me.
