Why is it that when I train indoors for a cycling...

...event, I am faster than training outside on my bike? Is it because I don't get bored/jaded as easy? Or because indoors there are no distractions/cars/wind/ that cause me to stop pedaling?

the surface is different, certain type roads tend to slow the tire down, maybe a small inclines, hills, the wind outside maybe working against you...several reason, same reason i can run on the treadmill inside alot faster than i can outside... ♥

It is simply because on trainers you are concentrated on your workout.

If you really are faster on race day when you train indoors it is probably because of the consistency of the resistance, and how it allows you to fly closer to the sun without burning your wings (allowing you to approach more smoothly and closely your lactate threshhold and optimum spin technique and cadence)

Even though indoor trainers are supposed to simulate the wind resistance we encounter outside, it's not an exact science. I find myself riding inside comfortably in a larger gear than I would be if I were outside. Don't concentrate so much on the gear or speed, just ride in a gear that's comfortable.
